On February 20, 1995, West Virginia designated the Golden Delicious apples as the state fruit. West Virginia is the native home of the Golden Delicious apple. The Golden Delicious apple tree was found in Clay County, West Virginia, in the United States on a farm owned by the Mullin family.
The chance seedling of Grimes Golden and Golden Reinette cultivated the Golden Delicious apple. Its taste is sweet, skin is yellowish-green, and the apple bruises easily. Because of its sweet delicateness, the Golden Delicious apple is used in salads, preparing apple sauce, and apple butter.
