The theory is that Beta-glucans (a soluble fiber) can help lower blood cholesterol by preventing the absorption of cholesterol from food in the stomach and intestine when it is taken by mouth. Beta-glucans slow down the digestion of food, and that means it takes longer for the body to absorb sugar (reducing the likelihood of blood sugar spikes), and because it is an indigestible fiber, as it travels through the digestive tract, it can take cholesterol out of the body to help lower cholesterol levels.
There Are Two Types Of Fibers – Soluble and Insoluble
Soluble fibers dissolve and create a gel that may help improve digestion which may reduce cholesterol and sugar levels. It helps your body improve blood glucose control, which can aid in reducing your risk for diabetes. Soluble fiber is found in oats, peas, beans, apples, citrus fruits, carrots, barley, and psyllium.
Insoluble fiber helps with the movement of materials through the digestive system and increases stool bulk, so it can be of benefit to those who struggle with constipation or irregular stools. Insoluble fiber attracts water into your stool, which helps soften stool. Passing a stool with less strain on your bowel. Insoluble fiber can help promote bowel health and regularity, and it can also support insulin sensitivity just like soluble fiber, and may help reduce the risk for diabetes.
General Mills has been active in the conservation of bees since 2011; in 2011, the company began investing in the Xerces Society to help promote biodiversity and pollinator conservation. In March 2017, General Mills announced the Buzz Bee image had been removed from boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios. Images of the new box showed a white blank space where Buzz Bee used to be. Below the image of the bowl of cereal, a plea to “Help Bring Back The Bees” was added. This was to raise awareness of pollinator decline 30% of ingredients are used by General Mills and depend on pollinators.
While Honey Nut Cheerios used to be made with actual nuts, as of 2006, the nuts were discontinued, and a natural flavor, from peach and apricot pit, is used instead.
